Workshops & Conversations

Creativity begins with curiosity.

Some of the most meaningful learning doesn’t happen in classrooms.

It happens around a table. During a walk. While looking at an old photograph. In the pages of a journal. In a conversation that begins with a simple question.

For more than thirty years, I’ve taught visual arts while continuing my own work as a documentary photographer, writer, and artist. Over time, I’ve come to realize that these aren’t separate parts of my life. They all begin in the same place: curiosity.

Whether I’m photographing a community festival, writing a Field Note, recording a Lantern Room reflection, or sitting down with someone to hear their story, I’m interested in helping people notice the world a little more deeply.

The gatherings I offer grow from that same philosophy.

Sometimes they involve photography. Sometimes writing. Sometimes drawing, conversation, or simply paying closer attention to the places we live. The medium changes, but the invitation remains the same: to slow down, notice, create, and tell stories that matter.

Rather than offering fixed programs, I prefer to begin with a conversation. Every workshop is developed collaboratively to reflect the people in the room, the goals of the organization, and the stories waiting to be explored.

Photographing Everyday Stories

Meaningful photographs don’t require extraordinary places or expensive equipment.

Using a phone or camera, we’ll explore how light, composition, and careful observation can help tell stories about everyday life, relationships, memory, and community. The focus isn’t on technical perfection. It’s on learning to see.

Writing from Lived Experience

Every story begins somewhere.

Inspired by the essays and Field Notes on The Leeça Space, this workshop invites participants to begin with lived experience rather than polished ideas. Through gentle prompts and conversation, we’ll discover how ordinary moments often contain our most meaningful stories.

Seeing the Extraordinary in the Ordinary

How do we learn to notice?

Together we’ll explore the beauty of familiar places, overlooked details, and everyday objects through photography, journaling, sketching, and conversation. Creativity begins not by looking farther away, but by looking more closely.

Photography, Words & Zines

Photographs and words have always belonged together.

Designed for libraries, schools, community organizations, and creative groups, this workshop explores how images, writing, and simple design can come together to tell personal stories through journals, artist books, or zines.

Land & Lives

Inspired by my ongoing documentary project, Land & Lives, these gatherings invite participants to explore the people, places, traditions, and everyday moments that shape their communities.

Together we’ll ask simple questions.

Who are the people whose stories deserve to be remembered?

What makes this place feel like home?

How can photography, writing, and conversation help preserve those stories?

Creative Conversations

Sometimes the most meaningful gathering begins with a question rather than a lesson.

Whether we’re exploring photography, storytelling, creativity, place, or memory, every conversation begins with curiosity. I’m always happy to collaborate with libraries, museums, schools, arts organizations, historical societies, festivals, and community groups to create experiences that encourage reflection, creativity, and connection.

Let’s Begin with a Conversation

Every community has its own stories.

Every organization has its own purpose.

Rather than beginning with a catalogue of services, I’d much rather begin with a conversation.

If something on this page resonates with you—or if you have an idea you’d like to explore together—I would be delighted to hear from you.

Together, we’ll imagine an experience that reflects your people, your place, and the stories you hope to tell.
